New poem in The Lifted Brow 29

The Lifted Brow 29 is out now and includes my poem ‘The Mixtape’, which will also appear in my debut collection Glasshouses (UQP, August 2016). Huge thanks to Poetry Editor Zoe Dzunko and Team TLB!

The mixtape — Portishead’s ‘Roads’, Suede’s ‘The 2 of Us’, Pulp’s ‘Disco 2000’, etc — was given to me 21 years ago by the first guy I dated. The poem was written after unearthing the slightly scuffed but still-playable TDK D90.

This issue also includes words by Gillian Terzis, Paul Dalla Rosa, Amy Gray, Lou Heinrich, Dion Kagan, Khalid Warsame and Wendy Xu.

Editing The Staysails

I love the editing process — the toing and froing, the umming and ahing, The Overture & the Underscore.

I am extremely fortunate to be working with the deeply intuitive and questioning Felicity Plunkett, poet, critic and Poetry Editor at University of Queensland Press.

And now, I have emailed The Staysails to UQP for further editing, typesetting, etc., and am thrilled to be working with the lovely Ian See, who I met at Queensland Poetry and Brisbane Writers Festivals 2015, and others at UQP.

“Sits”

It is amazing how much my “sits” help … They clear the mind of that surplus of misery which is entirely subjective and unnecessary … I begin to understand what T. S. Eliot means in “Ash Wednesday”: “Teach us to care and not to care.”
